Our Mission

P.E.A.C.E. promotes education and awareness for children everywhere by changing the narrative of children with special needs through Advocacy, Education and Parent Support Groups.

Our Purpose

 

The purpose of PEACE is to provide advocacy and support to families, caregivers, and community members who deal with the behavioral, social emotional and academic challenges of children with ADHD, ODD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, mental health illnesses and other related diagnosis. We are committed to ensuring that children with special needs are provided with the resources needed to become successful in a community that understanding and accepts their needs.

P.E.A.C.E. recognizes that it can be challenging to find the right recources to service our children. We want to provide recreational, medical and community resources available in the Cleveland area that cater to the needs of children with special needs. There are many wonderful resources available. The Facts

  1. Of the 53.9 million school-aged children (aged 5 to 17) in the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population, about 2.8 million (5.2 percent) were reported to have a disability in 2010.
  2. For many of these children, the kinds of disabilities they experience may require special approaches to providing education or other accommodations (US Census, 2010)
  3. In 2014, the prevalence of disabilities in OH were: 14.0 percent for persons of all ages 0.8 percent for persons ages 4 and under, 6.5 percent for persons ages 5 to 15, 6.7 percent for persons ages 16 to 20, 12.5 percent for persons ages 21 to 64, 25.4 percent for persons ages 65 to 74 and 48.9 percent for persons ages 75+  (These statistics indicate the social and economic status of non-institutionalized people with disabilities in Ohio, using data from the 2014 American Community Survey)
  4. What is Doe v. State of Ohio and What Is Its Impact on Special Education in Ohio? Doe v. State of Ohio is a class action lawsuit that was filed in federal court in 1993 as part of another lawsuit about funding and providing education in the State of Ohio. Disability Rights Ohio (formerly Ohio Legal Rights Service) became involved in the lawsuit on behalf of over 270,000 preschool and school age students with disabilities
